A crop insurance scheme that protects farmers from financial loss due to bad weather (floods, drought, cyclones). Farmers pay a very small premium (1.5% - 2%), and the government pays the rest. If crops are damaged, the insurance company pays the full claim amount.

Low Premium: 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops.
Full Coverage: 100% sum insured is paid for losses due to natural calamities.
Wide Protection: Covers prevented sowing, mid-season damage, and post-harvest losses (up to 14 days).
Technology: Drones and satellites used for faster claim settlement.
Direct Payment: Claim money goes straight to the farmer's bank account.

All farmers growing notified crops in notified areas.
Sharecroppers and Tenant farmers are also eligible.
Voluntary for all farmers (even if you have a KCC loan).

1Step 1: Go to pmfby.gov.in or the 'Crop Insurance App'.
2Step 2: Fill in your details and upload land/sowing certificates.
3Step 3: Pay the small premium online or at a CSC.
4Step 4: If crop loss happens, REPORT IT WITHIN 72 HOURS on the app.
5Step 5: Surveyors verify the loss and money is credited to your bank.
